E-Portfolio

One of the most important and beneficial items that you will be completing as an ids student is the completion of and E-Portfolio. The E- Portfolio is a tool that you will all used to collect, select, and reflect on your education here at UCF. You will be able to show your IDS thinking and overall successes for a specific audience such as future employment or graduate/professional school. Remember the IDS all about showing off your talents, abilities, and skills to a specific audience in a professional manner.

Some things to consider,
::DO THIS::
1) Brainstorm and give me some examples on how your e-portfolio can demonstrate interdisciplinary.
2) What is your audience and purpose?( future goals using this tool)
3) What style/ colors schemes do you think will look best? What makes yours stand out amongst the rest?
4) What are some things you are considering as putting for evidence? Why? ( past essays/ projects to show off)

  1. My e-portfolio will demonstrate interdisciplinary though evidence of my past experiences incorporated with my present experiences. My audience would be my future employer and the people I intend to recruit for the program I want to start. My favorite colors are green and blue because for me they are peaceful, soothing and welcoming. Some of the things I intend to post will be PowerPoint presentations, essays, research projects, etc. These items will serve a twofold purpose to gain the attention of potential employers as well as candidates for the program I want to start.

  2. The e-portfolio is a collection of works from the many different classes taken throughout the college journey. Since the works are coming from the different classes it should be a representation of the differing areas of concentration which in turn is a representation of a persons interdisciplinarity. The audience that the e-portfolio is meant for may be comprised of future employers. The purpose of the portfolio in relation to the future employer is to showcase your diverse knowledge and have specific examples of that knowledge. I don't necessarily know what color scheme looks the best all I know is my personal preference for the blue family, cool blue tones are the colors that I usually revert to out of personal choice. To make my portfolio stand out I just try to put as much of my personality into the presentation. Obviously my work and other peoples work will differ so that will showcase how I work and the quality of my work, but I try to make sure that a part of my personality shows in my writing, such as in the personal page for example. I have a very dry sense of humor and I try to out a little of that in my writing. As for what is going into my portfolio I will choose the pieces that showcase my writing ability, which will include essays and large projects, as well as some powerpoint presentations to show that I put a lot of effort into my work and not only do I try to be as thorough as possible but I like to present my work in the best light possible as well. I like my presentations to be pleasing to the eyes and to look professional and I want any work that reflects that to be included in my e-portfolio.

  3. Diana,
    We agree on why an e-portfolio is prepared...for employers and such. I like the choice of colors you had and the reasons that you liked them. I never really considered why I liked blue I just knew that I did, but you are right, blue is a very soothing peaceful color (if it is the right shade!)

  4. Some examples of how my portfolio can demonstrate interdisciplinarity are: through my experiences doing internships and externships, my written work and through my classes that I have taken throughout my college experience. My audience would always be any kind of possible employer so they can get to know me in different light rather than just a resume that has experience. My audience could also possibly be future employees for a company I would like to begin in the near future. The style/colors schemes I think would look best would be the colors Black and Lavender as an accent color because Black is a neutral and would give the impression that I can be grounded, while Lavender represents creativity and longevity. I may need to include extra colors but it would depend on how I put things together on the actual portfolio. A few things that I would like to include in the e-portfolio are PowerPoint presentations because they fulfill my aspect of creative professionalism, essays and long works that I believe show my writing quality, and artwork that shows more creativity that I possess. These works would mainly show my creative and free-will side of my personality as well as displaying my analytical, structural side. It will allow all future employers that I am a person who doesn't focus on one side of my personality and embraces all different strengths that I possess.

    I like the colors you've chosen for your portfolio but what shades on blue and green do you think would collaborate well on screen? And would you incorporate a neutral (black, brown, white or grey) for a base?

    @Simonie
    I like how you embrace the knowledge you gain through classes as diverse and giving examples of each would definitely show off your knowledge of diversity and interdisciplinarity. I also like how you speak about showing your personality through you writing within the e-portfolio when you do an about me section. ONe suggestion I do have is to be careful on what shades of blue you use on the screen of the website because if it's too bright or vibrant it will prevent your future employer from looking deep into who you are because their eyes may hurt. :/

  6. 1) My e-Portfolio reflects the ideals of an interdisciplinary education by the years of cross-connected classes.
    2) My only "goal" for my E-Portfolio is to use it as an advanced type of resume, in order to get employment.
    3) Considering that my future employer will hopefully have a greater IQ than a child on a playground, I have not put too much agonizing thought into my "color scheme." I am foolishly hoping that the content of my portfolio alone will get me through...wish me luck.
    4) I plan on including essays, reports, freelance work that has been used, and even video production clips in my portfolio. I love how much you can include on these things.

  7. All of these are great responses. Make sure you include you're best works. A variety of different types of media, essays, video, power point, ect. Make sure that even though you want it to be colorful and unique, that it isn't tacky or too " busy". You make benefit looking at past portfolios as well as peers. Good Luck! :)

  9. My e-portfolio can show in the different assignments how I responded to each assignment. It can show how interwined my areas of concentration and made it seem as though I'm studying one specific area.I want my audience to be future students in the major who are studying subjects that arent really cohesive, but find a way to make it cohesive. I want them to learn from me how to make it work and sell it. My favorite color is blue. It is relaxing, calm and serene. ANything done in this color should make people feel relax and overwhelmed. I would display my essays. I am a pretty good writer. My essays seem to captivate readers and entice them to keep reading. My writings tend to cause people to relate and reflect and that is my exact purpose.
